Government must act on increasing Support for Boycott of Olympic Games in China
At a press conference in Buswell’s Hotel in Dublin today April 7th, the Coalition to Investigate the Persecution of Falun Gong (CIPFG) outlined the need for the international community to protest at the increasing human rights situation in China. Spokesperson for the CIPFG, former Green Party MEP Patricia McKenna said, “In light of the increasing public support for a boycott of the Olympic Games there is an onus on Ireland, as a defender of human rights to take a lead on this matter.”

HONG KONG — As Beijing cracks down on protestors in Tibet in the run up to the Olympics, adherents of Falun Gong — a banned religious movement that draws from Buddhism and Taoism — are also facing the heavy hand of the Communist regime.
March 18, 2008 – The Human Rights Torch Relay (HRTR) is calling for the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to sanction the Chinese government in light of its violent repression of Tibetan demonstrators and revelations of large-scale arrests of Falun Gong practitioners in China. The HRTR is an international campaign initiated by the Coalition to Investigate the Persecution of Falun Gong to provide a forum for athletes, human rights organizations, Chinese democracy groups, Tibetan rights activists and other concerned individuals to rally under the banner: The Olympics and Crimes Against Humanity Cannot Coexist in China.
Human Rights Torch Relay Challenges Legitimacy of IMUSE College Tour
March 4, 2008 – The Human Rights Torch Relay today issued the following statement regarding the IMUSE college tour:
There are just six months left until the opening of the Beijing Summer Olympics. The world’s biggest sports event will get under way in the Chinese capital on 8 August. The Chinese authorities gave very specific promises in 2001 in order to win the games for Beijing. They said the holding of the games would “help improve human rights” and that there would be “total press freedom” before and during the games.
